Care guide
Y2Kottage strives to curate a collection filled with pieces that will last. However, it is best practice to make sure to avoid:
- Showering with your jewelry
- Working out with your jewelry
- Swimming with your jewelry
- Exposing it to chemicals like perfume, hairspray, hand lotions, detergents, or cleaning products.
- Sleeping with your jewelry
Each product has its own type of metal, and cleaning care varies accordingly. Below are lists of metal types Y2Kottage carries along with their care recommendations:
Stainless Steel
Simply use soap and water to clean your product when it is look dirty or dull. This works well in getting rid of dirt and grime with the use of everyday pollutants. Choose a gentle soap with warm water and allow to soak for only a few minutes
18K Gold Plated Over Sterling Silver

14K Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil is a layer of gold over .925 sterling silver which also will last longer than gold plated jewelry, but eventually can still tarnish when exposed to water, sweat or perfume over a longer period of time- this depends on the persons use and personal pH levels, too. All of the pieces are safe for sensitive ears are they're all nickel-free but for extra sensitive ears, I suggest the gold vermeil option as it's sterling silver under the gold layer
Gold plated
All gold plated pieces are 14k Gold Plated over brass. This means it will tarnish over time, but with proper care and management, you can make your piece last.
As suggested above please remove all jewelry before showering, sleeping, exercising, and applying any personal care items. (perfumes, lotions, skincare, etc.). Do not expose your gold and silver plated jewelry to water, cleaning solvents, or other chemicals as it will affect the color and finish of the product.
Gold Filled
Gold filled jewelry has a 18k gold layer plated over brass. Gold filled is a thicker layer than gold plating. It is higher quality and more resistant to tarnishing.
Cleaning care:
1. Line a bowl with Aluminum Foil
2. In the bowl, mix warm water and a drop of gentle dish-washing solution.
3. Soak for 20-40 minutes.
4. Using a soft cloth, wipe away solution.
Your jewelry should be the last thing you put on and first thing you take off!
